Let's create together.

My Story

I am so proud to live on Waiheke Island in New Zealand — a country where both my daughters can legally marry whomever they fall in love with. Murray and I have two daughters: one married a lovely man from Chile and they have two girls and my other daughter married her long time partner, an Australian Indian woman, just three years ago and they now have one daughter.

I have had a successful career in education that has seen me teaching and collaborating with people of all ages in multicultural environments both in New Zealand and China. Alongside teaching qualifications, I have a MEd (Hons). My first degree was in English and drama which has given me a life long love of literature as well as a passion for good writing and performing. This means I have the skills and experience to help create ceremonies that are meaningful and memorable. I am currently a member of the Celebrancy Association of New Zealand.

So when I recently returned from 10 years travelling and working overseas, becoming a wedding celebrant for all couples seemed a natural way for me to go. I have always loved celebrations that bring family and friends together.

Goldie Estate, Waiheke Island, March 2020

Nadia & Rob

The guests flew in from Brisbane, Hong Kong and other places for Nadia and Rob’s wedding at the superb location of  Waiheke’s first vineyard, Goldie Estate. They both share a love of family and celebrations so finding a location that celebrates both was a perfect venue. The summer prevailed so the sun shone on the hilltop venue for the ceremony and provided the perfect outdoor setting for the reception and dancing late into the night.

"Thank you so much for all the planning and taking the time to be with us on Sunday. It was such a lovely event and we loved every minute of it!"  — Nadia and Rob

Roadside Overlooking Garden Cove, Waiheke Island, February 2020

Seonaid & Shane

Seonaid and Shane had a magical road-side wedding at the very place he had proposed four years ago with only their two best friends as witnesses.  The bridal party of five along with their daughter, Lucy, Alice the Photographer, and the Celebrant successfully found the right place by following the GPS. Looking radiant in her wedding gown, Seonaid and her equally elegant best friend in a navy dress cheerfully acknowledged the passing cars. Shane carried their lovely 2-year-old daughter passing her over to his best man, Steve, when the vows had to be made with the exchange of rings.  Immediately after the short ceremony, we all celebrated by popping the cork of the champagne.

"We'd like to say many thanks to Maureen, especially on very short notice and successfully finding our very specific ceremony location. It all came together so well and we couldn't have been happier." — Seonaid & Shane

Batch Winery, Waiheke Island, February 2020

Lucinda & Carl

Amanda, Lucinda’s daughter, organised a weekend family get together on Waiheke to celebrate her mother’s special birthday. Because her family was all going to be together, including her son from Sydney, Lucinda and her long time partner, Carl, decided to get married. During the short informal ceremony between cloud bursts at Batch Winery, her two daughters and her son read beautiful poems to the happy couple. The bride’s birthday was celebrated at a lavish lunch and memory-filled weekend.

Becka & Josh

Becka and Josh fell in love with Waiheke when they visited the island and where Josh proposed to Becka. Her English family including her parents, grandparents, sister and university friend flew to New Zealand to be with the happy couple. They chose a beautiful corner of Oneroa Beach to be married on an idyllically balmy, blue-skied afternoon.

"Thank you so much for everything you have done and helped us with for our wedding day. We are both incredibly happy with everything. You made us both very comfortable where public speaking and appearance is not normally our thing even in front of family."  — Josh and Becka

Luke & Wish

After 10 years living and working in Singapore and Sydney Luke and Wish decided to get married on their own olive grove on Waiheke. However, the unpredictable weather prevented them from doing so but the alternative venue in the garden at Poderi Crisci was a beautiful alternative. We planned the ceremony by email and chats on face time and created a very special occasion that more than satisfied all they wanted.

Vilagrad Restaurant and Vineyard, Hamilton. March 2019

Kelly & Nick

“Maureen is absolutely lovely and has a fantastic personality. She is professional yet friendly and down to earth. She was very easy to deal with and spoke beautifully on the day. Maureen was organised from the very beginning and worked with us to get the perfect ceremony. She also accommodated a sand ceremony and added her own Gaelic blessing. We had a number of guests mention how wonderful she was. We would highly recommend Maureen for anyone looking for a celebrant and loved having her as part of our special day.” Nick and Kelly.

Whangamata Beach. January 2019

Aly & Kate

“Thank you for all your support and incredible detail in the lead up to our special day. And thank you for your calming energy during the ceremony. Your words were so lovely and meaningful as we shared that moment with our family and friends. Thank you for all your advice guidance and support. We really did have an awesome day. Your time, energy and warmth during our process allowed us to find our own place within it.” Aly and Kate.

Renewal of vows in their garden. January 2019

Pauline & Michael

Pauline and Michael wanted to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a gathering of their closest family and friends in their garden. They wanted to begin with a short ceremony that acknowledged their long time commitment and love and to include their two daughters. We created a poignant ceremony that did this with tears for loved ones no longer here and much laughter over activities and experiences shared with each other and whanau over many years. It was a joyous occasion with many memories and affirmation of their strong family values.

Queenstown, December 2018

Sue & Dugald

“Thank you so much for all you did for us. It really was a great occasion for us, and you both played very special parts in making it all happen so enjoyably.

Thank you again. As you say, we are sure to dine out on stories – lovely ones – of the wedding you made happen.” Sue and Dugald

Mudbrick Vineyard, Waiheke Island, March 2018

Kayla & Ethan

Kayla and Ethan with their young son, Carter, along with their families, flew to New Zealand from Western Australia where they both work. They had a wonderful wedding on the hill at Mudbrick. The ceremony we created using Skype and emails worked beautifully. Ethan and his friends are great fans of Star Wars franchise so the music and lines were intertwined into the ceremony much to the delight and surprise of the guests. It was certainly fun and raised much laughter and cheering!

December 2017

Pauline & Christian

Renewal of Vows

Pauline and Christian celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary by flying to New Zealand from their home in Geneva, Switzerland, to spend six weeks with family, some of whom also came from Europe. They all met on Waiheke Island for the first week beginning with their renewal of vows ceremony in the garden at Poderi Crisci followed by a leisurely lunch. We created a uniquely personal ceremony involving their son and daughter with stories about their family life followed by a beautiful poem read by one of their granddaughters before they themselves exchanged gifts and their love for each other.

As Pauline said many times, "Once again thank you very much for that very moving ceremony."

December 2017

Wendy & Tyler

Wendy and Tyler from Wellington travelled to Auckland just after Christmas to be married at a family member’s home overlooking the Waitemata. We planned the ceremony using Skype and email. It was a beautiful summers day. They wanted a short, very relaxed, informal, joyful wedding with family and friends.

Wendy said afterwards, “What a great day that was!! Thank you for everything. The memories are amazing.”

April 2017

Carolina and Jan

Carolina from Chile and Jan from Czech met on Waiheke Island and fell in love. They married in front of friends sitting on cushions and brightly coloured fabric on a friend’s farm at Orapui under a bamboo teepee with Caro’s specially made angels fluttering in the breeze. We created a uniquely beautiful ceremony beginning with Jan on his didgeridoo and went on to include their five close friends from Czech and South America, a beautiful solo from the bridesmaid accompanied by a violinist and a karakia in Maori.

As one of the guests said, “It was like being in a movie – absolutely awesome.”
